Over and above some good old-fashioned Acadian dancing, the group has prepared a beautiful rendition of the “The Acadian Story” in form of musical theater.

Our History

In May 2000 a group of young Acadian dancers performed in a variety show at a school in Yarmouth County, N.S. Among those who saw the show was the manager of the local tourist association and invited them to perform their acadian dance for the season opening arrival of the CAT Ferry at the terminal.

From there, requests were made from local festivals and organizations for entertainment. The group also performed on the CAT for both Canadian and American mini cruises. By this time the teacher/choreographer Cindy Comeau-Saulnier had expanded their performances to 20 minutes.

At this time it was felt the group neede a name and Dixacadie seemed appropriate given that the group originally consisted of 10 Acadian girls.

Dixacadie continued to perform each year, adding dances, costumes and props. In August 2003, the teacher felt she could create a special show for the 2004 World Acadian Congress, thus increasing the group to 21 girls ranging in ages from 10-16.

This special rendition of the Acadian Story came to be in May 2004. With the narration, props, costumes and traditional step dances, this was to be a 45 minute show like no other. This show was performed 25+ times, in schools, family reunions, festivals and other functions.

Dixacadie continues to celebrate acadian culture by re-enacting the deportation story through music and dance.

Just when it was thought the group was all danced out the teacher wanted to show the groups versatiliy by altering the Acadian story to create the Christmas Story, again through appropriate props, song, costumes and narration. This show was beautifully performed for many. It can also be performed again this coming holiday season............
